Technically, not the first Library-A-Thon

Although my Odyssey from library to library will be the first of its kind in recorded history, there have been recorded uses of the term “Libray-A-Thon”

From Monday, December 3 until Tuesday, December 4, a cheeky young woman posted the sordid details of her 24-hour study session at her university’s library. It’s not wildly interesting, but you can check it out here.

More importantly, the town of Elbow Lake, MN seems to have a really wonderful library, around which the community grows. Each year they have a Library-A-Thon, which draws people to the library for events like hair braiding, performances, and a bake sale. It is a yearly fundraiser, which has been happening for at least ten years, and maybe more.
